Does the weather really matter when it comes to fleas? The answer is YES!

Fleas love hot, humid sticky climates. Lucky for me, I live in Florida where we have that climate almost year round. Right now we are having unusually cold weather, just like the rest of the country – well – not LIKE the rest of the country – they are having much harsher conditions, but none the less – the point is – that fleas don’t like cold weather. If we get a hard freeze – I mean a hard freeze – then that in itself will kill the fleas and eggs and ticks and any other thing like it. If we don’t get a few hard freezes then those nasty hardy little eggs can survive and WILL come back. UGH. But it’s better to know and be ready then to assume something and have an infestation on your hands.

So depending on where you live – depends on how long you prevent/treat your dog for fleas and ticks. Fleas and ticks are much more prominent in the summer, but don’t let the winter weather fool you if it’s been a mild one — the naughty fleas and ticks are around – just waiting for you to forget about them. 🙂

If you have a bottle of ATLAST! Flea & Tick Spray – it’s a no brainer — spray your dog once a week — ok if it’s really cold – you can go a little longer — but at least once a month – don’t be lazy — just think of it as a way to keep the fleas on their toes – walking out the door – away from your house and loved ones!
